Renovations to Pier A in Lower Manhattan are setting the groundwork for a new dining and entertainment complex. Built in 1886 as an outpost for the New York Harbor Police and the Department of Docks, the aged pier now requires major improvements, and the Building Team of Stalco Construction, H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture, and the LiRo Group aims to stay true to the past. They will preserve interior features like cornice work and a granite fireplace and employ European artisans to replicate historic ornamental metal plating on the exterior. When the $10 million restoration and renovation is complete, plans will move ahead for a casual dining restaurant, oyster bar, coffee shop, and visitor center on the first floor, and a fine dining restaurant and event venues on the second and third floors. The 39,000-sf project seeks LEED Silver.
