CannonDesign’s Health Practice has released "Flooring Applications in Healthcare Settings," a report summarizing available information and evidence into a usable practice guide for key decision-makers in health organizations.

The report compares and contrasts different flooring types in the context of parameters such as health and safety impact, design and operational issues, environmental considerations, economics and product options.

“This report pulls all the best research and information we have to date on flooring in healthcare environments in a meaningful and easy-to-understand manner,” said CannonDesign Whitney Austin Gray, Ph.D, LEED. “Health leaders can leverage this as a tool as they make decisions about their facilities.”

CannonDesign’s report delivers information across three sections:

• Flooring Decision Timeline outlines when flooring issues should be considered at various stages of the design and construction process, supporting an approach that addresses major flooring issues in advance of the final decision.

• Key Flooring Parameters provides detailed descriptions of the qualities that should be considered whenever specifying flooring in healthcare facilities.

• Flooring Options introduces 11 different flooring types and provides short summaries of their potential application in healthcare settings.

"Flooring Applications in Healthcare Settings" leverages the extensive research that has emerged over the past decade and makes it easily translatable into practice. It empowers health leaders to make flooring decisions that positively impact both the environment and the patient and staff experience.
