Kameleon colors expand the palette

Advanced technologies are creating new possibilities with Valspar’s Fluropon Kameleon. A rich look is created with a unique blend of ceramic and inorganic pigments. These pearlescent colors shift and have a perplexing depth—creating a dynamic yet subtle effect.

Pearlescent pigments bring a unique luster effect with three types of light interaction—direct reflection, multiple reflection, and interference of pearlescent pigments, creating an optical impression. These nontoxic pigments typically contain metal oxide layers coated on mica, from a multiple-step production process.

“When creating a unique design that requires a vibrant color scheme, Kameleon Color is an excellent choice,” says Tim Tritch, director of sales for Valspar. “This innovative, multicolored system uses mica flakes to create a consistent, iridescent look.”

The effects vary by the coating thickness and the particle size of the mica. Both are carefully controlled to produce the desired outcome.

These 70% PVDF Fluropon coatings are well suited for long-life external applications, and meet high standards for heat and humidity-resistance. They are known for film integrity, color retention, gloss retention, erosion resistance, and chalk resistance. Kameleon Colors are available for extrusion and coil products and are applied in three coatings: a primer, basecoat, and color coat. An option clear coating can be added to enhance durability.

These coatings come in a variety of gradients, and special requests are taken to create an unforgettable effect. Light plays with Rose Dust, to morphs from green to maroon, while Purple Rain spans from a light silvery purple to a dark purple.
