Removing graffiti without a trace

Removing graffiti without a trace

There are three common methods for graffiti removal: painting over graffiti, using a chemical remover, and pressure washing.

Graffiti vandalism is a growing problem in cities across the globe. The motivations range from an urge to express social or political messages to marking a gang’s territory to communicating illegal activities.

Governments have responded in several ways to help reduce graffiti vandalism, including the creation of graffiti databases, and banning the sale or possession of spray paint, etching equipment, and, in some cases, markers. Some cities and municipalities require building owners to quickly remove graffiti—often within a few business days—a tactic that has proven to deter artists from marking buildings.

There are three common methods for graffiti removal: painting over graffiti, using a chemical remover, and pressure washing. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, but each can leave a property looking degraded if not properly employed. The issue of graffiti removal inspired Valspar scientists to develop a graffiti resistance system, which has been tested and approved.

This ASTM-compliant system is available for all of Valspar’s Building Products coatings coil and extrusion, allowing graffiti to be easily removed from all metal buildings applied with Valspar coatings both new and existing projects. Valspar has aligned with Graffiti Removal Services (GRS), an expert in graffiti removal to provide a simple and effective graffiti-removal solution. These non-toxic GRS products are applied with a brush and then wiped off, removing graffiti without a trace.
