California Governor Jerry Brown has proposed allocating $1.5 billion for a new fund to pay for new state office buildings and renovations in his 2016-17 budget.

Brown’s proposal came after a report was released pointing out defects in the state’s aging office inventory. The governor proposed transferring $1.5 billion from the state’s general fund to a new State Office Infrastructure Fund.

The first project would be a new $530 million, 650,000 sf office building for the Natural Resources Agency in Sacramento. It would be the first major state office building constructed in the Sacramento area since 2009.

Also part of the plan is a $226 million project to replace a vacant state building in downtown Sacramento.
