When West Sacramento completed its citywide needs assessment, results determined that a multi-generational facility was necessary to support cultural activities, theater productions and educational classes. As architects began planning the facility, they knew the design had to complement the urban cityscape, so they chose to build with coated metal to achieve the bold look they were after.
Architects from Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning called upon CENTRIA to supply the metal paneling for the exterior, knowing the manufacturer had a wide variety of textures available. CENTRIA then looked to Valspar, one of the largest architectural coating manufacturers, to present options for coating colors and finishes. As such, CENTRIA was able to present numerous options to the design team, who finally settled on a trio of bright blue colors –Valspar’s Fluropon® (known as Flurofinish to CENTRIA customers) in Arabian Blue, Deep Sea Blue and Royal Blue.
CENTRIA supplied more than 7,000 square-feet of its Profile Series Exposed Fastener Style-Rib vertical panels, which were installed by Richard Joseph & Company. The Arabian Blue Fluropon coats a majority of the paneling on the exterior and is accented with the complementing blue Fluropon colors.
Along with keeping sustainability in the forefront of its chemistry, Fluropon architectural coil coating, containing 70 percent PVDF resins, is a durable two-coat system that also offers outstanding color retention and consistency to ensure the building holds its hue. Since its opening in 2011, the West Sacramento Community Center has received numerous awards such as an Excellence in Design Award from Environmental Design + Construction magazine and an Award of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society, and also achieved LEED® Gold certification.
