Covenant House New York, a building located in Midtown Manhattan, recently broke ground. The facility will combine housing support, shelter, health care, educational services, job training, and civil legal services for New York’s homeless youth under one roof.
The 80,000-sf, 11-story purpose-built building was designed to embody Covenant House’s mission: to be open and welcoming yet safe and secure. The structure’s exterior is envelope comprises brick, metal, and glass and features a large expanse of windows on the second floor to connect the interior with the surrounding city. Highlights of wood are used on the interior to create a warm, safe ambiance.
The building steps back from the street on level five and creates an outdoor terrace space. The terrace will feature numerous planters and trees with space to gather or sit quietly. The facility is being built on a phased-development plan to ensure existing Covenant House residents will not be displaced or lose services.

FXCollaborative is providing planning, architectural, and interior design services. Monadnock Construction is the general contractor. The project is slated for completion in 2021.
