Facebook is set to build a 907,000-sf data center in DeKalb, Ill.
The project, which will be Facebook’s 12th data center in the U.S. and the 16th overall, will sit on a 505-acre parcel of land owned by the social media company. The land has the flexibility for five buildings, but the project’s first phase only calls for the completion of two buildings by 2022.

Powered entirely by renewable energy and using 80% less water than a typical data center, the project is expected to create about 100 jobs once completed. The site, located on Dekalb’s south side at the intersection of Gurler and Peace Roads, was selected due to its access to renewable energy, talent pool, and infrastructure.
The project is aiming for LEED Gold certification.
