Designs were unveiled for a new high-rise in Toronto called One Bloor West. Located at the southwest corner of Yonge and Bloor streets, the tower, developed by Sam Mizrahi, was recently presented at a community meeting. According to The Globe and Mail, the proposed structure boasts 72 levels of apartments on top of an eight-level luxury shopping mall. Mizrahi worked with Foster and Partners as well as Toronto firm Core Architects to design the building.
If the building is constructed, it will be the tallest in the city, outside of the CN Tower, and cost upward of $1 billion. Mizrahi Developments plans to ask the city for a total height of more than 1,000 feet with approximately 1 million sf of retail and residential space. The tower's structure will feature a steel exoskeleton and leaves the interiors of each level open to allow for winter gardens rather than balconies.
Mizrahi is meeting with neighborhood groups including the ABC Residents Association, which said it is "broadly supportive" of the tower.
