Technology developed by French startup Sysveo allows drones to capture video and overlay the shot results with 3D images and augmented reality, remotely.
As Discovery News puts it, this invention “could be especially useful for the construction sector,” because it allows designers, developers, and architects to see if a proposed building will blend in with the rest of the neighborhood.
In an interview with Motherboard, Sysveo’s CEO Clement Alaguillaume said “architects could easily use this for creating a real-time simulation of the building they designed, and see it on the ground."
He also adds that this technology will allow architects to make real-time decisions without the need to go back to their offices, because as many simulations as possible can be made by the drone.
The product, which is still in the early stages of development, was patented by Sysveo in late 2013. The firm says it plans to release the product as open-source software in about a year.
