High-tech instruction space trains students in manufacturing robots

In response to the growing demand for technical professionals trained in the installation, maintenance, and repair of manufacturing robotics, Lansing (Mich.) Community College expanded its Technical Careers Center with an 8,000-sf renovation and 11,000-sf addition, called the Center for Manufacturing Excellence.

The training and instruction space is home to a newly developed mechatronics curricula, graduating multi-skilled tech workers trained in pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical systems, electronics systems, and programming. Lab spaces include a flexible manufacturing lab, machine lab, and pre-stage labs containing robotic welding, a welding simulator, mobile laser, plasma table, and open fabrication and material storage space.

Harley Ellis Devereaux served as lead designer and lab planner on the $3.3 million project.
