SCB completes its first apartment tower in Oakland
17th & Broadway is the first of five major projects for the firm in Oakland.
Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB) has completed 17th & Broadway, the firm’s first residential tower in Oakland, Calif.
Â
17th & Broadway is a 34-story tower composed of 254 apartments and 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. The design for the tower borrows cues from Oakland’s predominantly ceramic-clad historic urban core and architectural landscape. Patterned and warm limestone-hued concrete panels complement the terracotta tiles and dense detailing of the surrounding context and the neighboring Cathedral Building.
Â
Residential amenities include a skydeck with panoramic views of the city and the Bay, an outdoor pool terrace, and a co-working lounge with conference and meeting rooms.
Â
The city’s creative and tech-fueled economic growth has spurred a fast emerging, high-rise residential market. Currently, SCB has four projects under construction in the city: Atlas, the tallest residential tower in the city at 40 stories; 1717 Webster, a 247-unit apartment tower in the heart of downtown Oakland; 40 Harrison Street, a 333-unit apartment development at Jack London Square; and Skylyne, part of the transit-oriented development MacArthur Transit Village.

SCB, founded in 1931, is an architecture, interior design, and planning firm that practices nationally from offices in Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle. For more information, visit www.scb.com
