When Motorola decided to move its headquarters back to Chicago, it left a 225-acre campus vacant in Schaumburg, Ill. The large plot of land is now being redeveloped into a mixed-use living and entertainment district by UrbanStreet Group and Antunovich Associates.
Dubbed Veridian, the mixed-use development will feature residential space, office space, a hotel, entertainment, dining, and urban-style street retail. The site has been divided into multiple parcels of land, many of which will be sold to individual developers, with the goal being to bring an urban feel to the Chicago suburbs.
Currently, the development is set to feature the already completed Zurich headquarters; two parks, one measuring in at nine acres and one at 13 acres; a retirement village; an assisted living community; the Element at Veridian, a 260-unit luxury apartment building (set for completion in 2020); over 200 townhomes; a Top Golf; an atrium office building; a 220-key hotel; and a retail and entertainment “Town Center.” Motorola Solutions will also maintain a presence as one of Veridian’s corporate anchor tenants.
The retail and entertainment district will be highly walkable and include unique shopping and dining options. Additionally, it will host a variety of entertainment opportunities such as concerts, movies, and ice skating.

Antunovich Associates will initially be responsible for the planning and designing of the main Town Center parcel. This parcel will feature approximately 800,000 sf of built area within the retail core, not including the four parking structures that will support it. Construction on a new spine road and infrastructure is slated to begin later this year with phase one completion as soon as Fall of 2020.
