Two CertainTeed products earn GREENGUARD Certification in both the U.S. and Canada

August 11, 2010

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed Gypsum is pleased to announce its ProRoc(R) Moisture and Mold Resistant Gypsum Board with M2Tech(TM) and ProRoc(R) LITE Sand Setting Compounds recently achieved GREENGUARD(R) Indoor Air Quality Certified(R) and GREENGUARD Children & Schools(SM) Certification. The company is the first to offer GREENGUARD-certified finishing compound and moisture-resistant gypsum board in both the U.S. and Canada.

“Achieving GREENGUARD certification reaffirms CertainTeed’s commitment to manufacturing sustainable building products throughout North America,” says Doug Gehring, director of marketing technical services for CertainTeed Gypsum. “Building professionals can be confident that the materials available through CertainTeed Gypsum meet the stringent indoor air quality certifications for both residential and commercial projects.”

Facilitated by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, both certification programs require products to meet stringent standards in regards to chemical and particle emissions, which can compromise healthy indoor air quality. GREENGUARD standards are based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s purchasing standards, the State of Washington’s Indoor Air Quality Program, Germany’s Blue Angel Program and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

ProRoc Gypsum Board is a high-strength, uniformly flat wallboard, designed for use on interior walls and ceilings in residential, commercial and institutional applications.  It is lightweight, easy to cut and install over steel or wood framing and may be finished and painted using conventional gypsum board techniques. CertainTeed’s new M2Tech platform gives ProRoc moisture resistance and enhanced protection against mold growth utilizing a moisture- and mold-resistant paper facing. The M2Tech offering achieves a score of 10 for mold resistance per ASTM D 3273, the highest possible score for this test. In addition, all of CertainTeed’s ProRoc Gypsum Wallboard meets ASTM C 1396 criteria.

ProRoc Brand LITE Sand Setting Compounds are lightweight, sandable and chemically set, and are used to pre-fill joints, embed joint tape and conceal joints, fasteners and trim accessories on gypsum wallboard. They can also be used for interior patching and repair. The LITE sand setting compounds are ideal for heavy fills because they are specially formulated to harden with very little shrinkage.

GREENGUARD Certified products are recommended and accepted by leading sustainable building programs, including the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED(R) 2009 Rating System, Canada Green Building Council, National Green Building Standard(TM) (ICC 700-2008), Green Guide for Health Care REGREEN(TM) (a USGBC/ASID Partnership) and California’s Collaborative for High Performance Schools Program. A comprehensive list of GREENGUARD certified products is available at www.greenguard.org.

CertainTeed Gypsum offers a broad range of gypsum and finishing products for interior and exterior needs. This, in combination with the full range of CertainTeed building products, provides architects, contractors, builders and dealers one partner to provide service and support for commercial and residential building projects. CertainTeed’s gypsum product offerings can contribute to LEED credits for use in green building design projects.

CertainTeed Gypsum products that have achieved GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification include ProRoc with M2Tech, ProRoc Type X with M2Tech, and ProRoc LITE Sand 5/20/45/90/210 Setting Compounds.
