THE WEEKLY SHOW HIGHLIGHTS FOR SEPTEMBER 10, 2020

SEGMENT #1 - The state of airport terminal design amid COVID-19

Curtis Fentress, FAIA, RIBA, Principal in Charge of Design with Fentress Architects, talks about the current and future state of air travel and airport terminal design amid COVID-19. Will we see a bounce back in airport construction? How will terminals be designed and operated differently post-COVID-19? What are some of the top design innovations to combat pandemic concerns and enhance infection control? Fentress and BD+C's David Barista discuss these topics and more.

SEGMENT #2 - How P3s are keeping university projects alive

BD+C's John Caulfield interviews Mellissa Collar, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships with Rockford Construction in Grand Rapids, Mich., about the advantages and benefits of using public-private partnerships (P3s) to fund projects and keep them moving forward. Collar points out that P3s aren't confined to major construction or infrastructure projects. They have become particularly useful to cash-strapped universities. P3s can resolve clients' capital and risk issues, and can also help keep projects on time and budget because all of the investment and building parties are working together early in the project.

SEGMENT #3 - Getting to districtwide retail planning after the pandemic

Scott Page and Sarah Kellerman of Interface Studio and Kevin Hively of Ninigret Partners discuss ways to "Restart. Reset. Retool. Refit" (download Interface Studio's report). urban retail districts and neighborhood strip malls by going beyond so-called best practices in urban planning and economics. To revitalize retail after the COVID-19 pandemic, we have to plan beyond individual buildings and think about whole shopping districts, according to the trio of experts. They speak with BD+C's Robert Cassidy about how to get to districtwide retail planning after the pandemic.
